Jose Benavidez Sr., father and trainer of WBC light heavyweight champion David Benavidez, has announced an agreement for a fight between his son and WBA/WBO cruiserweight champion Gilberto Ramirez.
“I’m happy that Ramirez’s fight with Robin Safar was canceled. There are no easy fights. You never know if Ramirez could get injured or what might happen at all.
Now we don’t have to worry. The fight is happening. Everything is ready. The contract is signed by both fighters. Ramirez previously referred to David by his nickname, 'The Monster.'
We are thrilled about this matchup,” Benavidez Sr. said.
The clash between Benavidez (30-0, 24 KOs) and Ramirez (48-1, 30 KOs) is expected to headline a card on May 2 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. David will be moving up in weight for this bout.
