Benavidez's Promoter: "Canelo's Legacy Will Be Tarnished"

In an interview with ProBox TV, the promoter of the "interim" WBC super middleweight (up to 76,2 kg) champion David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs), Samson Lewkowicz, stated that the undisputed super middleweight champion Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs) has no intention of fighting his client in 2024.

"Canelo's legacy will be tarnished because he did not fight the best when that was Benavidez. I think, maybe one day, his children, perhaps his grandchildren will ask him why he didn't fight Benavidez. He says he wants the best fights, but this is the best fight," said Lewkowicz.

Previously, Canelo announced that his next fight would take place on May 4th, and that his next opponent would not be a Mexican. Jermall Charlo is named as the most likely opponent.
