WBA "regular" super middleweight champion David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs) commented on the possibility of a fight with the undisputed super middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs).
"I'm not going to wait for Canelo. My career won't end after a fight with him. It's disappointing, but in the end, it also damages my reputation. The reason this fight won't happen is simply and clearly because Canelo doesn't want it to happen. It would be a fantastic event. But I don't need Canelo. The only reason people fight Saul is for the money. I'm not worried about that. I care about winning titles and giving fans the best fights. Once I beat him, then the money will come," Benavidez said.
Benavidez's next fight is planned for the summer – against Oleksandr Gvozdyk for the WBC "interim" light heavyweight title (up to 79.4 kg).
