Benavidez Continues Career in Light Heavyweight Division

Mauricio Sulaiman, President of the World Boxing Council (WBC) and adviser to Ready To Fight, announced that American boxer David Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) has decided to continue his career in the light heavyweight division (up to 79.4 kg). This information was conveyed in a letter from the promoter of the WBC interim champion in this division, Samson Lewkowicz.

Benavidez has become the mandatory challenger for the winner of the fight between Dmitry Bivol (23-0, 12 KOs) and Artur Beterbiev (20-0, 20 KOs). Consequently, David is no longer the mandatory challenger for the undisputed super middleweight champion (up to 76.2 kg), Saul Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs).

In June, David Benavidez won a unanimous decision over Ukrainian Oleksandr Gvozdyk (20-2, 16 KOs) to claim the WBC interim championship title.
