Benavides and Andrade face off proves worth the wait | Key stats and figures

On November 25th in Las Vegas, USA, the latest Showtime PPV tournament took place. Starting from 2024, the legendary broadcaster will no longer cover any sports, with the last free broadcast planned for December 16, 2023.

The final PPV tournament proved to be well worth the cost of entry due to an excellent selection of pairs. In the main event, David Benavides (28-0, 24 KOs) defended his WBC interim champion title against Demetrius Andrade (32-1, 19 KOs).

Andrade started strongly, but the more Benavides pressed and attacked, the harder it became for Demetrius. In the fourth round, David knocked down his opponent while also presenting Andrade some huge problem in the fifth, but Andrade still came out for the sixth and tried to respond blow for blow, but the champion's hit count was significantly higher. After the sixth round, Andrade's corner decided to withdraw their fighter from the bout.

Statistical showdown:

Despite a shaky start, Benavides still threw more punches than his opponent - he landed 117 out of 336. Andrade's numbers were 68 hits out of 259. Andrade threw significantly more jabs - 113 (19 accurate) against Benavides' 72 (15 accurate). The champion had a complete advantage in power punches, throwing 264, landing 102. Andrade's numbers were 146 punches, with 49 hits.

What's next?

Andrade is 36 this year. He is still quite fast, slippery, and accurate - thanks to this, he has managed to keep his winning form all these years1. But competing for another championship title in two categories is unlikely, at least not in the next year or so.

Benavides wants to meet Canelo:

"I am the youngest world champion in the second middleweight. Two-time world champion. Now give me the fight we all want to see. Who wants to see David Benavides - Canelo? Let's do it!" said David.

Saul, after defeating Jermell Charlo, claimed that he doesn't care who he fights next. We'll see if Alvarez's team listens to the fans' requests to make a fight against Benavides.

Other tournament results:

- Jermall Charlo UD 10 Jose Benavides

- Subriel Matias RTD5 Shohjahon Ergashev

- Lamont Roach SD 12 Hector Luis Garcia

- Carmel Moton KO 1 Hunter Turbifill
