Bellew on Usyk's 'overrating': 'We won't see anything like this in our lifetimes'

The British former world champion Tony Bellew reacted to the words of journalist and commentator Max Kellerman, who stated that Oleksandr Usyk is being underrated as a R4R fighter and overrated as a heavyweight fighter.

"You compare different generations, and that simply doesn't work. Golovkin dominated in an entire weight class, but he will never be regarded as big as Marvin Hagler, in my opinion. You are doing something similar with Ali and the heavyweights. Boxing was different then than it is now. We simply have to accept this and stop comparing.

As for Usyk's résumé – it is better than that of all others because he defeated the strongest opponents, beating them in key parameters – strength, size and experience in the heavyweight category. And don't forget that he beat them twice, which is incredible – he gave them rematches, a chance to figure him out, and still defeated them again.

No one has ever done what he did, and we probably won't see such a thing in our lifetime. He completely dominated both amateur and professional levels.

The only thing that can defeat Oleksandr is Oleksandr himself," Bellew said.

Tony Bellew met Oleksandr Usyk in 2018. The Ukrainian then won by knockout in the 8th round.
