Former world champion Tony Bellew shared his thoughts on the cut of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs), which led to the postponement of the fight against the holder of the WBO, WBA, IBO, and IBF titles Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs).
"Who benefits from postponing the fight? It benefits no one because both were in training camps and peaking. The only thing I'm concerned about now is to make sure nothing happens again. I know there's a $10 million fine if either of them postpones the match again, and it's just madness. No one's to blame if he gets injured again. Intentionally get injured and lose $70 million? Are you serious? Perhaps, this is the most expensive cut that ever happened in world history. It's madness. Just stop talking about it. Tyson wants the fight. Also, listen to a former fighter. We're not afraid of anyone. I met Usyk and, going into the fight, knew he was better than me, but I had this silly belief that I could catch him," Bellew said.
Earlier, Bellew doubted anyone could beat Usyk. Usyk met Tony Bellew in November 2018, where Oleksandr won by technical knockout, after which Tony announced his retirement from professional boxing. The fight for the undisputed heavyweight world title was supposed to take place on February 17 but was postponed to May 18 due to Tyson Fury's injury. The event will still be hosted in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
