The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) has dropped all charges against Mexican Super Middleweight boxer Jaime Munguia regarding the use of prohibited substances.

The decision followed a positive test taken after Munguia’s victory over Bruno Surace on May 3, which revealed traces of exogenous testosterone — a form not naturally produced by the human body.

“The athlete’s explanation was accepted by the UK Anti-Doping Agency (UKAD) and forwarded to us. Therefore, he was simply issued a warning about future conduct. All provided materials were reviewed, and UKAD agreed with his explanations, so the case was not pursued further,” said BBBofC General Secretary Robert Smith.

The World Boxing Council (WBC), which also reviewed the case, confirmed that Munguia’s team submitted scientific studies “that could be interpreted as supporting his position.” However, the organization noted that “the use of pregnenolone is not an acceptable justification for a positive result.”

WBC classified the incident as Munguia’s first violation and placed him on a one-year probation period starting from the date of the test. The boxer will also undergo additional random testing.

Following his rematch against Bruno Surace, Jaime Munguia (45-2, 35 KOs) tested positive, and the B-sample later confirmed the result. In early September, Munguia stated that the test had been a false positive and that he had been cleared of all accusations.
