Barrios Retains Interim Title

On the night of May 5th, a tournament was held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, USA. The main event of the evening was a fight between Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Jaime Munguia.

On the undercard, American WBC interim welterweight champion (up to 66.7 kg) Mario Barrios (29-2, 18 KOs) made his first title defense against Argentine Fabian Maidana (22-3, 16 KOs).

The fight went the full 12 rounds and ended with Barrios's victory. The judges scored it 116-111 across the board. The challenger was knocked down in the third round.

Mario Barrios won the title in September 2023 in a fight against Yordenis Ugas (27-6, 12 KOs) by unanimous decision. Fabian Maidana defeated Israel Lopez (11-6-1, 8 KOs) by unanimous decision last November.
