American trainer and boxing analyst Teddy Atlas believes the IBF title situation is unfair for both contender Filip Hrgovic and champion Oleksandr Usyk.
«Hrgovic is losing time; these are the best years of his career, it's unfair. But it's also unfair to Usyk. He earned the right to be the undisputed champion and wants to hold onto that title for more than 5 minutes.
He wants to have the pride that comes with those belts, especially because of his war-torn country. He symbolizes the best of the best. He is the only heavyweight world champion from Ukraine. This goes beyond the norm.
He's a hardworking family man, and his country is important to him. Being the undisputed champion is very important,» said Atlas.
Hrgovic and Daniel Dubois will face each other on June 1. The fight will determine either the mandatory challenger status for the IBF title or the interim IBF belt.
The Usyk-Fury rematch is scheduled for late 2024.
