Arum on Fury's Return: "Not Sure Joshua Fight Is Enough to Motivate Him"

Top Rank founder and boxing promoter Bob Arum has shared his thoughts on whether former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) might return to the ring for a long-awaited clash with fellow Briton Anthony Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs).

According to Arum, he doesn’t believe even a high-profile, all-British showdown would be enough to convince Fury to step back into the spotlight.

"I believe Tyson still has a lot ahead of him. He’s a great communicator and an incredible showman, but I don’t think he should return to the ring — I think he’s done enough.

Fortunately, he made so much money in the last few years of his career that neither he nor his family will ever have to worry about finances.

I’d advise him never to fight again and instead focus on being a speaker or commentator because he’s very good at expressing himself.

People are interested in what he has to say, and I think he can do a lot of good.

You know, I’m not British, so the idea of a Joshua vs. Fury fight doesn’t excite me the way it would for a British fan.

That’s why I’m not too concerned about him walking away from boxing and declining that fight.

Tyson is very open and communicative. He speaks his mind well.

But honestly, I don’t think he himself knows yet what he really wants deep down.

Would I support him if he decided to come back? That’s not for me to say.

No one can force him to do anything. If he wants to return and involve Top Rank, of course, we’d be ready.

But it would be entirely his decision. And if he wants us to be part of it, I’d be happy to join," said Arum.

In May 2024, Fury failed to become the undisputed heavyweight champion, losing by split decision to Oleksandr Usyk.

In December, the two met again in a rematch, with Usyk winning via unanimous decision.

Shortly after, Fury announced his retirement from professional boxing.
