On the night of May 19, Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) defeated Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) by split decision to become the undisputed heavyweight champion (over 90.7 kg). After the bout, both fighters expressed their desire for a rematch.
Turki Alalshikh, head of the General Entertainment Authority of Saudi Arabia, announced that Usyk vs. Fury 2 would take place in October. However, Top Rank's promoter Bob Arum believes the fight will happen no earlier than November.
«You know, Tyson is really looking forward to the rematch. It will likely be in November or December because he can’t do it in October. The guy has been training all year, and returning to training now doesn’t make sense. Late November or early to mid-December would be the ideal time for the rematch,» said Arum.
Oleksandr Usyk is the first undisputed heavyweight champion since November 13, 1999, when Lennox Lewis defeated Evander Holyfield in their rematch.
