Arum Confirms Berinchyk vs. Navarrete Fight Date

In a comment to BoxingScene, promoter and head of Top Rank Bob Arum confirmed the ESPN information about the fight date between Ukrainian lightweight (up to 135 lbs) Denis Berinchyk (18-0, 9 KOs) and WBO junior lightweight champion (up to 130 lbs) Emanuel Navarrete (38-1-1, 31 KOs). ESPN had previously reported that the bout would take place on May 18 in San Diego, USA.

Bob Arum also shared who Navarrete reminds him of. "Roberto Duran. It's the same with him: his best defense is offense. Navarrete will have no problem making weight, and we are excited to see him in a place that supports boxing," said Arum.

Denis Berinchyk and Emanuel Navarrete will fight for the WBO lightweight title, left vacant after Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) moved up to super lightweight (up to 140 lbs). Denis is the official challenger, while Navarrete will use his status as the WBO "super champion," which gives him the right to fight for the WBO championship title when moving up in weight class.
