Top Rank Boxing founder and legendary promoter Bob Arum has shared his thoughts on the current era of heavyweight boxing, praising its competitiveness and unpredictability.
According to Arum, today’s heavyweights stand out not only because of their size and talent, but also because of their ability to bounce back from defeats and reclaim title contention.
"I believe the heavyweight division is very strong right now, because almost every fighter — except for Usyk — has suffered a loss and managed to come back.
It’s especially clear when you look at Joseph Parker. There was a time when people thought his career was over, that he would never be a top contender again — and look at him now.
The same goes for Dubois — many thought he was finished, but now people are talking about him fighting Usyk again.
Today's heavyweights are incredibly talented and huge.
This isn’t like the old days when only one or two fighters stood out because of their size.
Now they look like basketball players, and it’s genuinely exciting to watch them fight.
We’re living in a great era of boxing, and next week we’ve got an exciting matchup — Guido Vianello vs. Richard Torrez,” said Arum.
In the heavyweight division, the WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBO belts currently belong to Oleksandr Usyk, while the IBF title is held by Daniel Dubois.
Joseph Parker and Derek Chisora are among the top contenders being considered for future title fights.
The bout between Guido Vianello and Richard Torrez is set to take place on April 5 in Las Vegas, USA.
