Ramirez entered the fight on a three-fight winning streak. Following his only career loss to Josh Taylor in 2021, Ramirez defeated Jose Pedraza, Richard Commey, and Rances Barthelemy. Barboza, on the other hand, claimed victories over Xolisani Ndongeni and Sean McComb earlier in 2024.
