British heavyweight Anthony Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) may have the opportunity to challenge the winner of the interim WBC heavyweight title bout between China’s Zhang Zhilei (27-2-1, 22 KOs) and Germany’s Agit Kabayel (25-0, 17 KOs).
WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman confirmed the possibility.
"Absolutely. This opens up opportunities for even more exciting matchups," said Sulaiman.
Joshua currently holds the sixth spot in the WBC rankings, while the reigning champion of the organization is Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs).
Previously, Sulaiman announced that the WBC received an official request to sanction the Zhang vs. Kabayel fight for the interim title, which the council has agreed to approve.
