President of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Mauricio Sulaiman, confirmed that former British champion Anthony Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) may compete for the WBC interim title.
“Absolutely, he can have that fight.
This opens up possibilities for more matches,” Sulaiman stated.
On February 22, a bout for the WBC interim heavyweight title will take place in Saudi Arabia. Competing for that belt will be Zhang Zhilei and Agit Kabayel. The current full-fledged WBC champion is Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk.
