British trainer Andy Lee, who coaches WBO interim heavyweight champion Joseph Parker, believes his fighter is the man who can defeat two-time undisputed world champion Oleksandr Usyk.
“He definitely deserves the fight. I can’t think of a heavyweight who’s been in better form than Joe. Wilder, Zhang… Before that, Simon Kean. Before that, Jack Massey — a good fighter, well-motivated. Deontay Wilder, Zhilei Zhang, Martin Bakole — six straight wins since the Joyce loss. And every performance has been more impressive than the last.”
I can't recall a heavyweight in this kind of shape not getting a title shot. He’s earned it.
But Daniel [Dubois] is a great fighter too. He’ll do his job well — I’m sure of that. He’s ready to take on the challenge.
I think Parker beats Usyk. I know why Joseph can win that fight — he just needs the chance to prove it. To me, Joseph deserves the shot. He’s the biggest threat to Usyk,” said Lee.
Usyk is set to face Daniel Dubois on July 19. Before that fight was announced, Parker was widely seen as a potential challenger for the Ukrainian.
