Former world champion Andre Ward says he would be willing to return to the ring for a fight against Anthony Joshua — despite never having competed in the heavyweight division before.
"Every day people ask me: ‘Do you miss boxing? And if you came back, who would you fight?’ Most of the time, I don’t miss it. I’m quite satisfied with what I’m doing in life right now. Who would I fight? That’s the problem. There are many names, but few that make sense.
But there’s one name I’ve mentioned before. When I hear that name, I can imagine stepping into the ring with him even today. If the business side was right and the conditions were met — it would be a fight between me and Anthony Joshua. I’d agree to do it at Wembley Stadium.
It’s a dangerous fight for my legacy. It’s a dangerous fight in every way, but he’s the one who would make me return to the gym and prepare for war. That’s Anthony Joshua.
I know he’s currently preparing to fight Jake Paul. But I’m talking about a real fight for legacy," Ward said.
Ward last fought in 2017, defeating Sergey Kovalev before retiring unbeaten. He is now 41 years old.
