Former champion and Ready to Fight ambassador Amir Khan believes that four-division champion Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) should avoid a fight with WBA, WBC, and WBO super middleweight champion (up to 76.2 kg) Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs).
"After fighting Canelo, I was never the same fighter. You can get knocked down – that's fine, you can get back up again. But that knockout from Canelo probably took five years off my life.
I was at the peak of my career but could never get back to that level. I wasn’t cowardly or scared, but that punch wasn’t good for the body and mind. It changed how my opponents strategized against me – they all started trying to land that one big punch.
It's a very dangerous fight for Crawford because you are always one punch away from injury. Canelo's power will always be with him. Crawford has made good money, he has a great family, why risk it?
You are always one punch away from injury, and he doesn’t need the money or the fame. He’s the best fighter in the world in the P4P rankings," Khan said in an interview with Top Offshore Casinos.
Amir Khan and Saul Alvarez fought in May 2016. The fight ended in the 6th round with Canelo knocking out the Brit, after which he was hospitalized.
