Amanda Serrano Agreed to 3-Minute Rounds, Taylor Did Not

Featherweight IBO and WBO champion Amanda Serrano has revealed that she agreed to 12 three-minute rounds for her upcoming trilogy fight with Katie Taylor, but her Irish rival did not.

We agreed to 12 three-minute rounds, but Taylor didn’t when it came time to sign the contract.

I believe women are capable of it—you’ve seen it. The WBC said no, so I had to give up one of my belts. I worked hard for that title. But I had to stand up for what I believe in. And I believe in 12 three-minute rounds. If that’s her choice, fine. But I think women deserve the same recognition and equality that men get,” Serrano stated.

The first two encounters between Serrano and Taylor ended in razor-close decisions in Taylor’s favor. Their highly anticipated third fight is set for July 11 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
