On the night of January 4 at Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan, Puerto Rico, local WBA and WBO featherweight (up to 57.2 kg) world champion Amanda Serrano (48-4-1, 31 KOs) faced American Reina Tellez (13-1-1, 5 KOs).
On the eve of the bout, Tellez failed to make weight and therefore was ineligible to fight for the titles.
The fight went the full 10-round distance and ended with a unanimous decision victory for Serrano. The judges’ scores were 98-92 and twice 97-93 in Amanda’s favor.
Serrano snaps a two-fight losing streak — the Puerto Rican had twice dropped decisions to Katie Taylor.
For Reina Tellez, this is the first defeat of her career.
