The California State Athletic Commission has unanimously voted in favor of supporting the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act, a legislative measure designed to protect fighters’ rights and prevent manipulation of fight purses and contract terms.
It is noted that the new bill does not repeal or amend any existing provisions of the Ali Act.
The next step is a hearing in the U.S. House of Representatives. Reports indicate that the proposal will preserve the 2000 Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act while expanding the 1996 Professional Boxing Safety Act by adding new regulatory provisions.
