Algieri Believes a Canelo vs. Benavidez Fight Is Possible

Former world champion Chris Algieri, while commenting on the bout between the undisputed super middleweight world champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs) and Jaime Munguia (43-1, 34 KOs), expressed hope that Turki Alalshikh, head of Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority, could organize a fight between Canelo and David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs).

"If Canelo started to fall out of the top five P4P, he reclaimed his spot with his performance against Munguia. He was not only impressive; he was admirable because there are still significant fight weeks ahead in his career.

Edgar Berlanga has been running a vocal campaign to become Canelo's next opponent. I began to lose hope that Canelo would ever fight David Benavidez, but Turki Al-Sheikh’s influence makes me believe it is once again possible," said Algieri.

On May 4th, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez won a unanimous decision over Jaime Munguia.

David Benavidez’s next fight is scheduled against Oleksandr Gvozdyk (20-1, 16 KOs) on June 15th in Las Vegas, USA, for the WBC interim light heavyweight title.
