American boxer Shakur Stevenson (18-0, 9 KOs) believes that Ukrainian Vasyl Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs) may prefer a fight with Devin Haney, not him.
"Ultimately, Lomachenko wants to get the belts. His thoughts aren't really focused on me. So you can't blame me if he doesn't fight me right now and choose Haney."
"Probably, it will be smarter for him. I just have to sit back and be ready when the time comes."
Stevenson defeated Robson Conceicao in his last fight. According to the results of the fight, all three judges gave a clear advantage to Shakur - 117-109, 118-108 and 117-109. At the same time, on the eve of the fight, the American did not fit into the regulated weight, due to which he vacated the WBO and WBC titles in the second featherweight.
After the victory, Stevenson declared his readiness to fight Lomachenko. The American believes that he is worthy of fighting the champion, like the Ukrainian or Devin Haney.
Promoter Bob Arum believes that the fight between Lomachenko and Stevenson can be realistically organized in 2023. Shakur himself expressed a similar opinion.
Ukrainian Vasyl Lomachenko will fight Jemaine Ortiz on October 29 at Madison Square Garden in New York. In case of victory, Lomachenko is counting on a match with the absolute champion in the light weight, Devin Haney.
