Devin Haney, the current lightweight world champion, has leveled criticism at Floyd Mayweather for "spoiling" boxing. Haney argues that many boxers are now aiming to emulate Mayweather's undefeated record, which, in his opinion, is negatively impacting the quality of matches and the degree of challenges boxers are willing to take on.
Haney stated that boxing needs to undergo a transformation, citing MMA as an example, where fighters frequently square off without giving much thought to their win-loss records. "We could change the dynamics of boxing and make it similar to the UFC. There, guys fight each other, lose and fight again. After defeats, they take part in even tougher battles," Haney expressed.
"While Floyd did manage to elevate boxing's profile, he also slightly tarnished the sport with his undefeated streak. Now, fighters are reluctant to face each other. They are more focused on maintaining their 'zero' loss record," added the boxer.
