    Detailed Fight Review

Styles and Techniques of the Opponents

  • The first clash between Serhii Bohachuk and Brandon Adams in 2021 showed that stylistically the two are made to deliver an action-packed fight that fans will surely enjoy. Both fighters’ approach in the ring is to close the distance to mid-range and hurt their opponent.

Bohachuk is one of the most aggressive pressure fighters of the modern era. The Ukrainian relentlessly stalks his foe, throws in high volume, combines well, and wears opponents down with his activity.

Adams takes a different approach, though his end goal is the same. Often conceding size to his opponents, Brandon doesn’t have endless stamina to press without pause. Instead, he steadily applies pressure, cutting off space and working his way into close quarters. At times he shifts to a reactive style, letting the opponent come to him — a situation that makes him more comfortable.

The fighters’ styles overlap. Both Serhii and Brandon want to be close to their man, throwing heavy hooks and uppercuts, relying on power punches. Sooner or later — and likely sooner — they will engage in hard, combination exchanges, each trying to break the other.

  • Age and Experience Difference

  • Bohachuk is 30 years old, Adams is 36. In their first fight, Serhii was still a prospect, yet to meet opponents capable of absorbing his offense without breaking. He was training in a different gym, with a different coach, and the defeat gave him his first major lesson.

After that win, Brandon stayed out of the ring for three years, from 2021 to 2024. Upon returning, he scored two victories and suffered one defeat by split decision. Before his layoff, Adams held the clear edge in experience — having faced Jermall Charlo, Shane Mosley Jr., and Ievgen Khytrov. Now, however, the advantage belongs to the Ukrainian.

Serhii has amassed far more recent high-level experience. After his loss, Bohachuk strung together five consecutive stoppage wins before meeting Brian Mendoza. Against Mendoza, the Ukrainian went 12 rounds for the first time and scored a convincing victory. Then came Vergil Ortiz, whom Serhii nearly beat — dropping him twice.

After that, there was Ishmael Davis, a physically strong boxer with quick hands, reminiscent of Adams in his ability to counter. And finally, the awkward Michael Fox.

Adams can no longer be considered the more experienced fighter. He also gives up six years in age to his younger rival and is coming off a lengthy layoff, having only resumed fighting last year.

  • Punch Statistics in Recent Fights

  • Bohachuk is one of the most high-volume punchers in the sport today. Against Mendoza, the Ukrainian threw nearly 1,000 punches. On average, he lets go of well over 600 per fight, landing at 21%. Adams, by contrast, averages just over 350 punches per bout at 17% accuracy.

What’s more, Bohachuk outperforms his opponent in accuracy across the board. Serhii lands 16% of his jabs compared to Adams’ 11%, and about 25% of his power punches versus Brandon’s 20%.

In short: Bohachuk throws more punches and lands them at a higher rate in every category compared to the less active American.

  • Fighting Activity

  • Adams returned to action in 2024 and fought three times — good output for modern boxing, but still slightly less than Bohachuk.

Serhii boxed four times in the same span, three in 2024 (Mendoza, Ortiz, Davis) and once already in 2025 (Fox).

His last bout proved difficult. The tall, long-armed Fox denied the Ukrainian many of his opportunities, and the fight took place at a higher, unfamiliar weight class. But Serhii still won.

Adams’ most recent fight also ended in defeat, and it was far from easy. Andreas Katzourakis closed the distance and unloaded combinations. Though Adams prefers close range, he struggled with such a high, intense pace.

Even so, the American managed to earn a 96-94 scorecard from one judge, though the other two sided with Katzourakis.

  • Punching Power

  • An intriguing factor: Adams owns a 64% knockout rate, while Bohachuk’s stands at 92.31%. Yet it wasn’t Serhii who scored the stoppage in their first meeting.

Brandon can load up and land punishing overhands even against elite foes. Jermall Charlo, who comfortably defeated him, nonetheless felt that power. Against Bohachuk, Adams capitalized during one of his offensive bursts and stopped him. His punching strength should not be underestimated.

Bohachuk, meanwhile, is not a one-shot knockout artist. His strength lies in combining heavy, well-placed shots. Every surge forward is dangerous, and it’s hard to cover up against everything. Serhii breaks opponents down, draining them with his accuracy and output, often leading to stoppages.

  • Ability to Absorb Hits

  • Both fighters are solid in this department. Bohachuk’s only stoppage loss came against Adams. Since then, he has improved his defense and stamina management. As a result, punchers like Mendoza, the powerful Ortiz, and the sharp counterpuncher Davis failed to inflict real damage.

Brandon Adams went the distance with Charlo — the bigger man and a skilled technician. That was in 2019, but Adams has maintained his durability since. Across his career, he has lost four times, only once inside the distance — back in 2015 to Apollo Thompson (who has just over a 38% KO rate). Since then, his chin has held up. Even Katzourakis, Adams’ latest opponent, applied nonstop pressure with accurate shots but couldn’t break him down.

  • Fight Venue

  • A Ukrainian fighting an American in the U.S. might seem daunting for Bohachuk, but this may not be the case here.

Serhii had a controversial decision against Vergil Ortiz, where many fans felt Ortiz should have lost. But Ortiz is a star with major fights ahead. Adams, in this matchup, is unlikely to be a judges’ favorite. A fair and clean scoring process can be expected.

  • Psychology and Recent Successes

  • For Bohachuk, this fight is personal. In 2021, he lost and learned a lesson. That setback sparked growth and change. He switched gyms, trainers, and training philosophy, and has since developed into one of the top contenders at Super Welterweight.

This rematch is his chance to erase that defeat, prove he corrected his mistakes, and show he is a better fighter than four years ago.

For Adams, the bout is just as meaningful. At 36, his career isn’t over with the right preparation and mindset. He remains a fresh, active fighter with opportunities still ahead.

A win over Bohachuk would give Brandon another run of lucrative matchups on solid shows – perhaps even a trilogy. Almost certainly, it would move him up the rankings. He has reasons to fight hard and the tools to execute his plan in this rematch.
