IBO middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jr. could see his £100,000 fine increased following his infamous egg-throwing incident during a face-off with Conor Benn. The penalty was initially issued for violating Rule 25 — “improper conduct” — under the regulations of the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC).
Eubank has filed an appeal against the fine, but BBBofC General Secretary Robert Smith warned that the amount could potentially go up.
“The appeal will be heard. The fine could either be reduced or increased. The case will be reviewed by fully independent appeal stewards. While they’re part of the BBBofC structure, they are not members of the board itself.
The hearing is scheduled for June. The panel will make a decision based on Mr. Eubank’s argument that the fine was excessive. In my opinion, the amount was quite fair,” Smith stated.
The highly anticipated bout between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn is set to take place on April 26 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
