Eddie Hearn Reveals When Ben Whittaker’s Next Fight Will Take Place

Matchroom Boxing chief Eddie Hearn spoke about the next fight for his newly signed 28-year-old British light heavyweight Ben Whittaker.

It will be late November — we’ll announce the show soon. We need to get him in the ring as soon as possible. I don’t want to wait until next year.

We’re looking for an opponent from the top-15 global rankings. Ben has been too inactive. To be honest, he hasn’t had a real high-level fight yet. I’m expecting two or three quick world-level fights, and then we’ll start moving toward bigger names.

I like Willy Hutchinson, Joshua Buatsi, Anthony Yarde, and of course Callum Smith — he’s our guy. Even if those boxers don’t get title belts, we can still make big fights.

This guy (Whittaker) will sell out arenas. Everybody has their opinion of him — love him or hate him — he doesn’t care. This is a massive signing for us,” Hearn said.

Ben Whittaker (9-0-1, 6 KOs) last fought in April, when he defeated Liam Cameron by second-round TKO in their rematch. Their first fight ended in a technical draw — after the bell, both boxers fell out of the ring and Whittaker was injured.
