Detailed Fight Review
Not the most expected matchup for Jaron Ennis’ debut at Super Welterweight. When news broke about the American moving up in weight, fans anticipated a bigger name and perhaps a more straightforward stylistic clash. That was initially the plan — Eddie Hearn held talks with Serhii Bohachuk, but the sides couldn’t reach an agreement.
Lima is a southpaw who prefers to work as the aggressor. Still, he’s also effective as a counterpuncher — he can provoke exchanges, bait his opponent into a mistake, and punish it instantly. The Angolan is capable of engaging in brawls, punching with power, and absorbing punishment patiently. It could become a tricky fight if he isn’t intimidated by Ennis’s speed and timing.
Ennis, at 28, is four years younger yet far more experienced and recognizable. His résumé includes names like Stanionis, Chukhadzhian, Avanesyan, Villa, Dulorme, and Lippinets — a far stronger lineup than Lima’s opposition.
Among Lima’s notable opponents is Aaron McKenna, who beat him on points in a 10-round bout, plus a few solid but unspectacular wins against previously unbeaten fighters like Bhatti and Matevosyan.
Both fighters throw roughly 550 punches per fight, but Ennis’s precision is what sets him apart — especially in power shots.
On average, Ennis lands around 29–30% of his power punches — an excellent figure for that category. Lima actually throws more — around 320 power shots per bout versus Ennis’s 270 — but with slightly lower accuracy (21% for Jaron, 29% for Lima).
Taking into account Ennis’s tougher competition, the American still holds a major advantage in striking efficiency and clean connections.
Ennis has had periods of inactivity but seems past that. Under his Matchroom deal, 2025 marks his second fight of the year after stopping Eimantas Stanionis in spring.
Lima, meanwhile, has been consistently active: two fights in 2022, four in 2023, and two in 2024 — maintaining a steady rhythm entering this matchup.
Lima’s 70% knockout rate is impressive — he knows how to pressure, set traps, and find openings. Yet his power may be overstated: McKenna absorbed his best shots without serious trouble.
Across the ring stands a far more explosive puncher. Ennis boasts 88% KO rate, combining speed, accuracy, and impeccable timing. Letting him settle into rhythm is essentially signing a knockout warrant.
Ennis does get hit — partly because of his confidence and the gap in size he often enjoyed at Welterweight. Moving up means stronger opponents and heavier shots, so defense will be crucial. He’s never looked fragile, but the Super Welterweight division will test that.
Lima, for his part, proved durable — McKenna bruised him but couldn’t dominate. However, Ennis’s precision and power are on a completely different level.
This will be Ennis’s third fight at Wells Fargo Center in his hometown Philadelphia, where he previously stopped Avanesyan and outboxed Chukhadzhian. The local crowd always fills the arena — a massive psychological edge.
For Lima, it’s enemy territory and unfamiliar surroundings — something that could weigh heavily once the fight begins.
Despite being the underdog, Lima isn’t here just to show up — this is his big moment. He’s confident and knows that one win could launch him straight into the elite.
For Ennis, the main question is adaptation. Will the move up in weight help him? Likely yes — the decision came after medical advice, suggesting he’ll gain energy and durability. Still, as always, theory will only be proven once the bell rings.
