Turki Hints at Crawford vs Benavidez, Crawford’s Trainer Responds

Turki Alalshikh, head of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, hinted at a possible Super Middleweight clash between Terence Crawford and David Benavidez, writing on Twitter: “Can David Benavidez still make 168 pounds?”

Later, Crawford’s trainer Brian McIntyre was asked about the idea of matching his fighter with Benavidez.

– Turki wrote this morning that he’s curious whether Benavidez can still make Super Middleweight. Maybe he has plans or ideas to match Benavidez with Terence Crawford.

– No, we’re not going to make that fight.

– Do you plan to vacate the belts?

– No, we’re not vacating the belts. You know, we’ll just wait a little where we need to, and then, like I said, we’ll get back in the gym and do our thing, McIntyre said.

On the night of September 14, Terence Crawford (42-0, 31 KOs) defeated Saul Alvarez by unanimous decision to become the first three-division undisputed champion of the four-belt era.

On November 22, David Benavidez (30-0, 24 KOs) will defend his WBC Light Heavyweight title against Anthony Yarde at ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
