Former champion George Groves commented on the upcoming fight for the absolute world heavyweight championship (over 90.7 kg) between titleholder Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) and WBC champion Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs). The Brit remains skeptical that the fight will even happen.
"I've said from the start that I'll believe in this fight when I see it. I don't think Fury ever liked the idea of fighting Usyk. Tyson talks about having ten more fights, but how would that work if he loses to Usyk? Fighting Usyk is a huge risk for him. Maybe he's hoping Usyk can't handle body shots.
I wasn't surprised when the fight was postponed due to a cut. It gave me the impression that this fight might never happen. I thought to myself, it's more likely that Fury would fight Joshua instead, because that fight is easier for him. Neither the Saudis nor the WBC are going to pressure Fury to fight Usyk, so maybe he'll have a rematch with Ngannou or fight Joshua instead.
It's the fight everyone really wants to see. I don't believe Fury will have to pay a $10 million fine if he pulls out of the fight again. Usyk is probably thinking, 'I don't know if Fury will show up since there's a chance this guy might pull out of the fight,'" Groves told Betway. The bout between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury is scheduled for May 18 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
