Former world heavyweight champion Charles Martin (30-4-1, 27 KOs) has publicly called for a showdown with rising British prospect Moses Itauma (11-0, 9 KOs), making it clear he wants one more shot at championship gold.
"I'm willing to do whatever it takes to earn another title fight. I took the fight with Jared Anderson on just one week's notice and still managed to hurt him multiple times. With a full training camp, I would have knocked him out—just like I will knock out Moses. Right now, he's taking care of his opponents quickly, but everything changes when you’re up against a puncher of the same caliber. Let’s see if he can take a shot as well as he dishes them out.
I want another title shot, and I know that beating a young, strong guy like Itauma, who everyone is talking about, puts me in position for a fight against someone like Daniel Dubois. I’ll do whatever it takes to get that opportunity.
One thing boxing fans know about me—I’ll fight anybody. The real problem has always been that other fighters don’t want to face me, which is why I’ve had to take fights on short notice or even while injured. But now, I’m in peak shape and ready to knock out anyone in the world, including this 20-year-old prospect," said Martin.
The American veteran last fought in November, demolishing Matthew McKinney with a first-round knockout. In December, Itauma delivered a statement win of his own, stopping Demsey McKean via first-round TKO.
