Detailed Fight Review
Even before their first meeting, it was clear that Cameron was exactly the kind of opponent Whittaker needed for a real test. Ben is an excellent, unique boxer. He’s technical, slick, and fights in a way only he can — playing with his opponent, entertaining the crowd, putting on a show.
He had all of that in the amateurs too. But the real question was how Whittaker would react in the ring against an opponent who would walk him down relentlessly and wouldn’t get baited by every theatrical slip or flashy sidestep.
Cameron handled that challenge — and showed that Whittaker could be made uncomfortable.
Whittaker is 27, Cameron is 34.
Liam has plenty of experience, which allowed him to stay mentally composed when Whittaker started his ring theatrics.
Cameron has fought more pro fights and has seen tougher opposition — including the likes of Lyndon Arthur. For him, Whittaker is just another flashy prospect who needs to be stopped.
For Ben, though, this fight is as much a mental test as a physical one. It’s about finding the balance between putting on a show and focusing on pure boxing against a gritty opponent.
Whittaker is not a high-volume puncher. And a style built on sustained offensive output could potentially cause him trouble.
Cameron isn’t a punch-output machine either. But he cuts the ring off well, manages distance, and can throw enough to cause problems for a younger, flashier opponent.
For Cameron, the first meeting with Whittaker was his fourth fight of 2024. Even though that run included a loss and a draw, the year has been successful. He started with two first-round knockouts, then went the distance with the durable Lyndon Arthur, and finally refused to let Whittaker win.
Whittaker has been equally active, with three victories (one inside the distance, two by decision). The draw against Cameron was the first time in his pro career he didn’t leave the ring as the winner.
Neither man is a puncher. Whittaker can land clean and has won inside the distance, but his style isn’t built around knockouts. He’s about the show — making the opponent look foolish. How the victory comes is secondary.
Cameron holds a stoppage rate slightly above 40%, and his punches should be respected. He can catch anyone clean. The question is whether he can connect hard enough to make it count.
Liam has lost six times — but never by knockout. Even the physically imposing Lyndon Arthur couldn’t drop him. Whittaker never gave the impression that his shots were dangerous enough to hurt Cameron.
On the flip side, Whittaker can take a punch well. More importantly, he maintains distance so effectively that his opponent usually has to do a lot of work just to land clean.
A British fight between two Brits — no home advantage either way.
This will be Whittaker’s second fight in Birmingham. The last time, in 2023, he scored a third-round knockout here. For Cameron, this will be his first time stepping into the ring in this city.
Cameron has already benefited from the first fight’s outcome and a strong 2024 campaign. He landed a good promotional contract and earned fan respect — with some even believing that Whittaker quit and faked an injury.
Liam gave Whittaker a tough, close fight. That’s why, at the halfway point of the bout, the judges’ scorecards showed a draw. And that’s why both men now have something to prove — inside the ring, against each other.
There are plenty of questions: What happens to Whittaker when he has to box more and joke less? Can he maintain pure boxing against an opponent like Cameron? What happens to Liam if the fight goes deep? And to Ben too — if the fight drags beyond the middle rounds? Who will run out of gas first? Who will start absorbing heavy shots earlier?
This rematch intrigues — even if it seems, on paper, that Whittaker’s skill level is fundamentally higher.
