Detailed Fight Review
Kollias is a typical strong heavyweight. He pursues his opponent, applying pressure with his weight, and aims for a powerful punch. Marios is adept at landing short combinations and knows how to target the torso, which he works on with his opponents in every fight.
Anderson, despite his recent devastating loss, remains one of the most technical boxers in the heavyweight division. He has excellent footwork, the ability to box as a counterpuncher, and works well with combinations—everything is in place for the American.
Jared Anderson is younger—he's 25, while his opponent is 33. Kollias is at the ideal age for a heavyweight. This is the time when heavyweights typically begin to show their best boxing.
However, experience definitely favors Anderson. Aside from his fight against Bakole, who handed Jared his first loss, the American has fought seasoned, tough, and versatile opponents, including Ryad Merhy, Andrii Rudenko, Charles Martin, and Jerry Forrest.
Anderson is more of a volume puncher. Due to his fighting style, he constantly either attacks with combinations or keeps his opponent at bay. Kollias works differently—he pressures his opponent and attacks from either mid-range or close distance if his opponent is at a size disadvantage.
Both boxers fought twice in 2024, each losing once. Kollias lost by decision to Kem Ljungquist, while Anderson suffered a heavy knockout after previous knockdowns against Martin Bakole.
It cannot be said that Kollias is a top puncher, but his punches appear visually heavier. Power isn’t the main draw for Anderson, though.
Had Jared possessed harder punches and better movement, he likely wouldn't have lost to Bakole, or at least the final stages of the fight wouldn’t have been so one-sided. But the American doesn’t have a fearsome knockout punch with just one clean hit. Bakole’s pressure couldn’t be stopped, Ryad Merhy (significantly smaller) lasted the entire fight with him, and the bout against Rudenko was stopped a bit prematurely.
However, Anderson’s volume of punches and their variety are important. He combines them in such a way that his opponent becomes lost under the barrage.
On one hand, Anderson did lose by stoppage—and it was a hard one. On the other, Bakole’s punching power is undeniable, and very few would withstand his punches. Before this, Jared didn’t seem to face any significant problems with his opponents.
Thus, it can be said that the ability to take a punch is roughly on the same level for both fighters, unless the ring proves otherwise.
Kollias has traveled widely for his fights—his last one in Greece was in 2018. But this will be his first fight in the USA, and the atmosphere will certainly not be in his favor.
Jared is one of America’s main hopes in the heavyweight division, so everything will be against Marios. He will need to exert tremendous effort to win, or simply win by stoppage.
For Marios, this is a chance to further disrupt the story of one of the top American heavyweight prospects. After this, he could land one or two lucrative fights. A huge opportunity.
For Anderson, this is a comeback fight, where his future will be decided. He was previously matched against Bakole, so now he needs to rehabilitate himself. While Kollias is not an easy opponent, he’s not insurmountable either. A solid, workmanlike opponent that needs to be defeated. Otherwise, Anderson’s prospect status may fade.
