Oleksandr Usyk: “My Price of Success is Not Seeing My Children Being Born”

The holder of the WBA, WBC, IBF, and IBO Heavyweight titles, Oleksandr Usyk, shared his thoughts on the reverse side of major sports and the personal sacrifices he has to make for the sake of his career.

“My price of success is not seeing my children being born, not being present at their birthdays. Practically, I do not live with them in the same house; instead, I only come to them like a temporary tourist.

But every time I am with them, I try to spend as much time with them as possible: to communicate, listen to them, help. Mostly, to listen and tell them about certain moments of strength and love. One must love. Everything depends not on how much you love, but how you love.

That is, you have to do it for real. And even when they are making noise and everything else — give them the opportunity. If you see that they are not crossing a certain limit, you don't need to forbid them from doing anything. You should even try to give them the opportunity to make a mistake so they understand: a mistake is not the end of the world, a mistake is growth,” said Usyk.
