The World Boxing Organization (WBO) committee has sent an official letter to Jaime Munguia (45-2, 35 KO), requiring an explanation for a potential anti-doping rules violation following his bout against Bruno Surace (26-1-2, 5 KO).
The matter is now under administrative review in accordance with WBO regulations.
On 3 May Munguia outpointed Surace in their rematch, winning by unanimous decision. Shortly afterwards, VADA’s post-fight A-sample returned an “adverse analytical finding” for metabolites of testosterone of exogenous origin. The B-sample later confirmed the positive result.
If the analysis stands, the 28-year-old faces a possible suspension and his victory over Surace may be overturned.
