WBC Grand Prix: Solomennikov and Albornoz to Fight Despite First-Round Losses

Ukrainian featherweight Oleksandr Solomennikov (16-1, 8 KOs) is officially set to compete in the second round of the WBC boxing Grand Prix in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. His opponent will be Juan Manuel Albornoz (4-1, 0 КО) of Argentina.

Both fighters lost in the opening round of the tournament but have been granted entry into the second stage. According to the WBC, the winner of this bout will advance to the next round of the competition.

It is unclear whether this pairing is replacing a previously confirmed matchup, but Solomennikov had been listed as a reserve fighter for the second round.

The bout will take place on June 21.
