“It’s Madness.” Warren Blasts WBA for Approving Pulev–Gassiev

Moses Itauma, Frank Warren / Leigh Dawney, Queensberry Promotions

Frank Warren, head of Queensberry Promotions and promoter of British heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma, criticized the WBA for allowing regular heavyweight champion Kubrat Pulev to make a voluntary title defense against Murat Gassiev, despite the organization previously ordering Pulev to face Itauma next.

“Frankly, I’m outraged. How is it possible that you announce a fight with Pulev, and then allow him to go ahead and fight someone else? It doesn’t make any sense. You have to wait for that fight to happen, then you schedule the next one with the winner.

How are we supposed to negotiate with Pulev if he already has another fight lined up?

This is pointless, ridiculous, and just a complete waste of time. We’re currently deciding how to move forward. We had a meeting with Moses this morning, and we’ll announce where things stand next week.

When asked whether they plan to take legal action, Warren did not rule it out:

“I don’t want to go into details yet. We are reviewing our options, but what the WBA did — it’s absurd. Why sanction this fight at all? It’s madness. Absolute madness.”

The fight between Kubrat Pulev and Murat Gassiev is scheduled for December 12 in Dubai, UAE.
