British light heavyweight Zach Parker spoke about filing an appeal to the WBA over the official verdict in his bout against Joshua Buatsi, which took place on November 1 in the United Kingdom.
“That’s exactly why I keep doing these interviews — to make sure the topic stays in the spotlight and people keep talking about it. In boxing, a week goes by, there’s another fight or something similar happens, and this either gets forgotten or swept under the rug. Honestly, I’m just glad people are talking about it.
My team has filed an appeal to the WBA. If they decide to order a rematch — I’ll gladly take it. But, to be honest, I believe I should be the one moving forward. I should be waiting to fight the winner of Benavidez vs Yarde.
I’ve put in a lot of work on my strength and conditioning, I prepared for light heavyweight. For the first time in a long while I’m healthy and injury-free. Give me a proper camp and an opponent who won’t pull out — and I’m confident I can beat anyone,” Parker said.
One judge scored Buatsi (20-1, 13 KOs) vs Parker (26-2, 18 KOs) a draw at 95–95. The other two had it 96–94 for Joshua, who claimed the WBA International title.
