“Coward”: Shakur and Gervonta Trade Barbs Online

WBC Lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson and WBA Lightweight champion Gervonta Davis engaged in a heated exchange on social media.

“How much are they paying you for the fight with Teo (Teofimo Lopez)? Like I said, you were injured, and you know it. That’s why you’re bringing me up now. I know what I did to you in sparring, and you know how you’ll feel if I cut you that check… But I’m turning away,” Davis wrote.

Stevenson fired back:

“That’s why I know you’re a coward. I can’t even argue with you — you’re too soft. You’d rather throw something at me on social media than step into the fire and get embarrassed.

You went down on one knee in the middle of your last fight like a damn amateur, blaming oil in your eyes — just because the fight was getting tough. And then you come here crying about people being fake, when you’re the fakest n*** in boxing.”

Davis responded:

“Nobody wants to see your fight. You’re boring in the ring, and you’re boring outside it! The gap is huge.”

In the end, Davis deleted his Twitter account.

In July, Shakur Stevenson (24-0, 11 KOs) defeated William Zepeda by unanimous decision. Gervonta Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) last fought in March, earning a draw against Lamont Roach. On November 14, Davis is scheduled to face Jake Paul in an exhibition bout.
