Jai Opetaia (28-0, 22 KO), the IBF Cruiserweight champion, shared his thoughts on a potential showdown with WBA and WBO titleholder Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramírez (48-1, 30 KO).
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again—I’m the best cruiser on the planet. Ramírez looked good against Dorticos, but if he truly believes he’s number one, there’s only one way to prove it. I’m sick of all the excuses and delays.
None of the other champions have rushed to fight me, but the time has come. Let’s unify the division once and for all.
I respect everything Zurdo has achieved, but I know I’m on another level. I’ve beaten world-class opponents, defended my belts, and I’m ready to collect more. If Ramírez has the courage to take this challenge, I’ll show the world why I’m the real champion.”
Both fighters recently defended their titles: on 8 June Opetaia knocked out Claudio Squeo in the fifth round, while on 28 June Ramírez defeated Yuniel Dorticos by unanimous decision.
