Frank Smith, CEO of Matchroom Boxing, has suggested that the reigning WBC, WBA, and IBF heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk might intend to take a longer break from competition before his next move.

“I haven’t seen Usyk in a long time. I spent a lot of time with him in Gandia about 15-18 months ago. I love Usyk’s team. They are brilliant. I was very happy when Anthony [Joshua] went there. I am also close to Ben Davison. But I think Ben has Moses and Fabio. Joshua literally grabbed his bag, put on his gloves, and went to learn there. It’s a fantastic circumstance.

Usyk is incredible. He is an amazing athlete. He learns every day. He is completely dedicated to his craft. The discipline is incredible. They have a scientist on the team. They have different specialists for nutrition, physical conditioning, trainers. They don’t miss a single detail. And I don’t think there is a heavyweight he wouldn’t beat.

He beat AJ twice. He beat Tyson [Fury] twice. He beat Dubois twice. He beat Derek. Wilder is probably the last name of that generation. But I think people expected him to fight Joseph Parker if Parker had beaten Fabio Wardley. That seemed like the fight that made sense.

So now I think he would really like to fight Wilder because I think that’s a big fight in America. Wilder is still a huge name.

We haven't heard if Chisora vs. Wilder is definitely happening. Maybe Usyk wants a little more time, and Oleksandr will fight the winner. So it could be Wilder or someone else.

I know Fury still wants that third fight. There will always be options. Everyone wants a chance to fight Usyk,” Smith stated.

Previously, Derek Chisora posted a video in which he appeared to be signing a contract for a fight against Wilder while speaking to him via video call.
