Australian IBF super lightweight champion Liam Paro (25-0, 15 KOs) shared details about the failed negotiations for a fight with American Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs).
Paro claims that the WBC champion on recess asked for “ridiculous money” and wasn’t serious about their bout.
“I’ve wanted this fight for a long time. He overestimated himself, demanding ridiculous money. He doesn’t have a belt, so we just moved on. It was clear he wasn’t serious,” Liam Paro told Fighthype.
Paro did not specify the amount Haney requested for the fight.
In June, Liam Paro won a unanimous decision against Subriel Matias (20-2, 20 KOs), taking the IBF title from the Puerto Rican. His first title defense is scheduled for December 7 against American Richardson Hitchins (18-0, 7 KOs).
Devin Haney hasn’t fought since April when he lost by decision to Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs). However, due to a doping violation found in Garcia’s system, the fight was declared a no-contest.
