Former world welterweight champion Keith Thurman revealed that he had considered Jaron “Boots” Ennis as a possible future rival.
“Boots is Boots. He smelled blood in the first round and got the job done. He came out calm and composed, and that guy (Lima) just couldn’t weather the storm. When things go downhill, they go fast. That’s the thing about Boots — if he traps you in a dangerous zone, he knows how to finish the fight.
I’ve always seen him as a potential opponent. If someone came to me and said, ‘Keith, the best fight we can offer you right now is Boots Ennis. Do you want it or not?’ — you’d already have seen Thurman vs. Boots happen,” Thurman said.
Ennis (35-0, 31 KOs) defeated Lima (14-2, 10 KOs) by technical knockout in the first round, ending the bout at 1:58.
