John Fury on a Tyson–Usyk trilogy: “Let the third fight happen”

John Fury, father of former world champion Tyson Fury, shared his thoughts on a potential third fight between his son and undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, who currently holds the WBA, WBC, IBF and IBO titles.

“Do we want a third fight? I do, because I truly believe we won the first one. It was close, apart from that crazy ninth round. I thought we took that fight. But that’s boxing politics — he got the decision. Good luck to him.

Did he beat Tyson convincingly? I say no. Let the third fight happen. Two ageing guys — let them get in there. What else is there to say?” John Fury said.

The first clash between Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) and Oleksandr Usyk (24-0, 15 KOs) for the undisputed heavyweight championship took place on May 18, 2024, and ended with the Ukrainian’s victory by split decision.

In December of the same year the rematch was held, with Usyk once again winning, this time by unanimous decision. Shortly afterwards Fury announced his retirement, but in January 2026 he declared that he would return to the ring.
