Jake Paul: "We Were Close to Finalizing the Fight with Gervonta"

Influencer and cruiserweight boxer Jake Paul (11-1, 7 KOs) has revealed that he was on the verge of securing a fight with WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs).

According to Paul, the bout was planned at a catchweight of 88.5 kg (195 lbs), but negotiations collapsed after Davis’s unexpected draw against Lamont Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs).

“We were literally one yard away from the finish line. Everything was nearly agreed,” Paul said.

“But now he’s got to run it back with Lamont Roach. He wants that rematch, and after that, we’ll revisit talks with Mr. Gervonta.”

Jake didn’t hold back on his opinion of Tank’s performance:

“I never thought Tank was all that… I’ve always seen a lot of holes in his style. It didn’t shock me at all that someone finally gave him a real fight.”

In March, Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach fought to a majority draw over 12 rounds (D-MD 12). A rematch is expected on August 16 in Las Vegas, USA.

Jake Paul, who famously defeated Mike Tyson via unanimous decision in November 2024, is set to face Julio César Chávez Jr. on June 28 in Anaheim, California. Earlier, Jake also issued an official boxing challenge to British YouTuber and rival KSI.
