Gervonta Davis Released on Bail in Miami: Lawyer Calls Boxer a "Victim"

WBA lightweight champion (in recess) Gervonta Davis has been released on bail following his arrest in Miami, according to his attorney.

Previously, the boxer was detained in the Miami Design District following a surveillance operation that spanned three counties. Police arrested the boxer on charges of battery, false imprisonment, and attempted kidnapping.

It is reported that Davis was held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami. After appearing before a Miami-Dade County judge, Davis was released on a bond set at $16,000.

The boxer's attorney, Simon Steckel, issued a strong statement to the Associated Press:

“Gervonta Davis is actually the victim here, and I look forward to vindicating this shocking story in court.

What happened to Gervonta Davis in this case goes beyond the initial charges against him and exposes a level of criminality that will be talked about long after his charges are dropped.”
