IBF Interim Junior Middleweight champion Jaron Ennis addressed promoter Eddie Hearn on his Instagram.
“Eddie, what’s taking so long? We told them to keep their phones on them,” wrote Ennis, implying that after WBA Interim champion Vergil Ortiz won in the same division, he had agreed to the fight. Ortiz responded:
“Jaron, my manager says we haven’t received a single offer from you. Maybe tell your team to call first? And next time, come to me. Don’t forget who’s 2–0 and who’s 0–2 when it comes to agreeing to fight,” wrote Vergil.
Ennis fired back:
“I told you to your face you’re next! But it looks like you don’t make the decisions.”
After that, Ortiz again said the American’s team had turned down the fight twice:
“Okay, so either one — you said ‘no’ twice. Or two — you let someone say ‘no’ twice for you. Which one?”
‘I'm not going to continue arguing. Are we going to fight or not?’ Ennis asked, referring to promoters Oscar De La Hoya, who represents Ortiz, and his promoter Eddie Hearn.
In November 2025, Ortiz knocked out Erickson Lubin in the second round. After the fight, Jaron Ennis entered the ring and agreed to face him.
