Eddie Hearn Names Ideal Opponent for Crawford

Terence Crawford / Mark Robinson, Matchroom Boxing

Matchroom Boxing CEO Eddie Hearn shared his thoughts on a potential matchup between his fighter, Jaron “Boots” Ennis, the WBA Interim champion at super welterweight, and the undisputed super middleweight champion Terence Crawford.

“Name me another realistic fight besides Crawford–Ennis that you’d truly want to see involving Crawford. Many of the opponents Crawford has faced, unfortunately for him, were past their best — though I still consider him a once-in-a-generation boxer, an incredible talent.

The difference with Ennis is that he’s not at the end of his career. Ennis isn’t coming off eye surgery or a horrific car crash (like Errol Spence was before fighting Crawford), and he doesn’t have 80 fights behind him. None of that is Crawford’s fault — he would’ve fought them all and likely beaten them all.

Crawford is a fighter of the era. He’s earned the right to face whoever he wants and will only return to the ring for huge money. So we have to do our part to make this fight as lucrative as possible,” Hearn told Sky Sports.

On October 12, Jaron Ennis (35-0, 31 KOs) made his super welterweight debut, stopping Uisma Lima in the first round.

On September 13, Terence Crawford (42-0, 31 KOs) defeated Canelo Álvarez by unanimous decision, becoming the first undisputed world champion in three weight divisions in the four-belt era.
